JUBAIL INDUSTRIAL COLLEGE RECEIVES THE PRESTIGIOUS HACCP CERTIFICATION

After undertaking meticulous inspections, Jubail Industrial College finally received the prestigious Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certificate from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Ltd. (LRQA), a certifying body based in London. The said certification once again proves JIC’s commitment to promote quality in all areas within the College.
LRQA defines HACCSP as “the internationally-recognized structured operating method that helps organizations in the food and beverage industry identify their food safety risks, prevent food safety hazards and address legal compliance. HACCP is used at all stages of food production and preparation processes.” Also, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration defines HACCP as “a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product. HACCP is referred as the prevention of hazards and can be used at all stages of a food chain.”
As mentioned, the company visited the College restaurant on December 22-23, 2014 to conduct rigorous inspection, as part of the certification procedures, which include the assessment of the restaurant facilities, food preparation, among others. The company commended the measures implemented by the College to ensure that quality and safety of the food of students and staff are observed at all times.
The College restaurant serves around 3,902 students, of which 2,771 students are accommodated at the JIC Dormitories. It also caters to 567 trainees from several companies such as SABIC and Saudi Aramco, and to 402 College employees.
